With patio weather just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to look at some places to enjoy Happy Hour with your dog. Here is my list of 5 places that I like, I’d love to hear about your favorite discoveries.
Bar Boheme - in the heart of Montrose, Bar Boheme offers a subtly lit, wraparound patio featuring an outdoor bar that welcomes well behaved dogs. Bar Boheme offers a good wine selection, craft cocktails, beer and bistro style food. They are supporters of local artists with a Cultured Cocktails event every Thursday, Belly Dancing on Friday nights and Drag Queen Brunch once a month. It is a great place to meet friends for something a little out of the ordinary for happy hour/brunch.
State Fare Kitchen and Bar - Across from Memorial City Mall on Gessner, State Fare Kitchen and Bar bills itself as a Southern Comfort Restaurant. It’s happy hour includes chicken and waffles, brisket firecrackers and smoked ribs. The bar features handmade craft cocktails and an impressive frozen drink flight featuring four of its most popular frozen cocktails. The patio welcomes dogs and they are happy to provide water bowls for the furry friends at the table. Ask the staff to show you pictures of their pets...they will!
Spring Street Beer and Wine Garden - Spring Street, located in First Ward, has a huge dog friendly patio (partially covered) with a smaller indoor seating area. They have a selection of wines, craft beers and imaginative cocktails. Waitstaff will serve you at outdoor tables or you can order from the bar inside. They often have dog-centric events on the patio and donate part of drink proceeds to animal rescue. If you go, check to see which drinks they are featuring.
Axelrad Beer Garden - Axelrad’s is housed in a 100 year old renovated grocery store in Midtown and features a huge outdoor seating area complete with hammocks. You can enjoy more than 30 beers on tap, a selection of wine and handcrafted cocktails. If you get hungry, you can order pizza from Luigi’s Pizza next door. There is often live music featured. Best of all, dogs are welcome both inside and outdoors.
Astral Brewery - Just opened this year, Astral Brewery is located in the Heights. They have a good selection of beer on tap, canned wines and cider. There is usually a food truck parked nearby, but you are welcome to bring your own food to enjoy with your beer. Well behaved dogs are welcome both inside and out. Check their website for events and to see which food trucks will be featured.
